C. L. DRAGOON, CONFEDERATE REVOLVER - Lot #0590

Most of you know about these rare guns. This is a Colt 3rd Model Dragoon with rare 8' barrel and this fine Dragoon saw service with a crack Confederate Mounted Unit called "The C. L. Dragoons", or Crocheron Light Dragoons, named after their material equiptment supplier and backer, John Crocheron. After initially mustering in to guard the port city of Mobile, this unit became Halloway's Company of the 3rd Alabama Cavalry and rendered escort and courier for Braxton Bragg, Joseph E. Johnson and John Bell Hood. The history of these rare revolvers was brought to light in the January 1991 issue of "The Gun Report Magazine". This example is one of the best in a deep smooth brown patina on its metal parts, 30% original varnish on fine full grips and about 70% light cylinder scene. It would be hard to improve upon this example.
