CONFEDERATE CAVALRY SABER, KENANSVILLE - Lot #4544

This is a very good condition and standard configuration Kenansville enlisted-man's cavalry saber. Based on the number of surviving examples, the Kenansville or Confederate States Armory in North Carolina was probably one of the top two makers of cavalry sabers in the Confederacy. It is a close copy of a standard US model 1840 wrist-breaker or 1860. This one is in very good condition that retains some bright polish to its blade, has a sound, un-dented scabbard and almost all the grip-wrap with original wire. It has never been cleaned, touched or enhanced. Many of these are found with Roman Numerals on the throat of the scabbard and the side of the guard, and they don't always match. Many are also completely unmarked as is this example. Similar swords in this condition were bringing upwards of $8,000.00 a few years ago. It's a buyers market now and this one's a bargain.
