I have owned this Civil War tintype photograph longer than any other in my life. I purchased this from well-known Civil War collector John Hamilton in the early 90's and it was my first image for 2 reasons. John told me it was an image of an Ohio Officer that he purchased in Canton, Ohio and could one day be identified, and being from Ohio, that appealed to me. But more important to me, the officer is sporting a first or second model Colt Squareback Navy Revolver. To this day, it is the only one I've ever seen and I'm certain that the collector that buys this image will be a Colt Collector, not a Civil War Collector. It's a full quarter-plate image and in excellent condition. It is housed in a familiar pattern of thermo-plastic case, the cover being the Monument to Washington in Richmond, Va. The case is excellent save for a slight chip to the upper left edge. A rare image to say the least and a great addition to a first or second model navy display.
