This U.S. Springfield Armory Model 1871 Rolling Block Rifle is in good condition and priced right. The left side of the frame is marked "MODEL 1871, the right side with the eagle & shield motif over "U.S./SPRINGFIELD/1872" and the upper tang is marked with two line Remington patent dates. The rifle is finished armory bright with a casehardened action. Square base front sight and adjustable folding leaf rear sight graduated to 900 yards. Sling swivel mounted on the front of the trigger guard and a swivel on the forward barrel band. The wood has been gently cleaned or sanded but not overly so and retains a light cartouche on the left wrist. The gun shows minimal corrosion, overall grey patina and strong rifling. There are 3 tiny nail-heads showing on the right wrist but I can't tell why as there appears to have never been a crack or damage of any kind. Maybe just for decoration.
